Let’s face it: Interviewing for a job is a white-knuckle experience for most of us, whether we’re introverts, extroverts, or a little of both.
But keep reading because Prime-Core Executive Search has these interview tips that work for all applicants, and they’ll work for you, too:
Research, research, research. US News says to “know your audience.” Find out everything you can about the company you’re interviewing with. And if there’s a way to learn about the department, research that too (incognito of course). Go through the company’s entire website to get a feel for its culture, values, mission, and business goals. Pay attention to the writing style: serious? a little flip? conversational? Look at all available photos to see how people in positions comparable to yours dress so you’ll blend in when you get there. Google the company to find out what others are saying about them.
Put together a long list of possible interview questions. This is easy: Just Google “interview questions” and “interview types” to discover questions that are open-ended, questions that might require role-play, and questions about your background, including your hopes and dreams.
Develop your main messages. It doesn’t matter so much what the questions are as long as you can work well-rehearsed information into the answers: points you want to make about yourself and your background. You definitely want to highlight relevent experience, how you solved problems, why you want to work for the company, what skills and insights you bring to the table, and so on.
Match your main messages with your list of interview questions. No matter the question, work one of your main messages into the answer.
Practice, practice, practice. Now rehearse your answers in the shower, in the car, and in front of the mirror. Make sure you can smoothly and subtly promote yourself while still replying to the query on the table. Work on sound bites: two or three words that are memorable and that describe your work ethic, top skills, etc.
These are just a few ideas. We have more! So contact us for the rest of the story on preparing for your next job interview and walking away head and shoulders above the other applicants.
