Most users don’t even know about it. Of those that do, many have never tried it. But there’s a relatively simple way to boost your visibility, increase your credibility and stand out from the crowd on social media. If you want to achieve all of the above, here’s our LinkedIn tip of the day: publish long-form posts.
What are Long-Form Posts?
Last year, LinkedIn decided to give its top 500 members an opportunity to share their thoughts on industry trends and developments. The thought was simple: these users were savvy enough to publish their musings anyways, and allowing them to do so directly on the network established LinkedIn as a go-to content platform. The service was so successful that LinkedIn began expanding its offering to all users this year, meaning any member can now write and publish long-form posts (which are essentially blog posts, but internal to LinkedIn).
How Can I Publish Them?
Anytime you log in to LinkedIn, you now have three options: share a status update, post a picture, or publish a post. The third option leads you straight to the editing window of your new post, where you can add an image and headline and start writing. Once you’re happy with the way your post looks and reads, you can add relevant tags at the bottom, and publish. The post will automatically shared as a status update from your profile, and you can promote it from other outlets as well.
How Do They Help Me?
Why go through all that trouble? Because long-form posts are just what the doctor ordered to help you stand out from the crowd. Of course, your current connections will be able to read your post. But it will also be added to your profile as evidence of your expertise in the field, allowing any visitor to your profile to check your credibility.
Most importantly, the post will be published under the “Pulse” section of LinkedIn to anyone who has indicated an interest in the field you’ve tagged when editing the post. Frequent users of the network are familiar with LinkedIn pulse, getting regular updates of relevant posts both in their email inboxes and their news feed. By simply publishing a long-form post on LinkedIn, your name will be exposed to potentially hundreds – if not thousands – of professionals in your industry.
In other words, long-form posts are an ideal way to increase your exposure! Contact us to learn more about standing out on LinkedIn.
