It takes a certain skill-set to effectively deliver a good presentation. With practice and time, you can hone you presentation abilities to deliver better messages each time. This post will discuss three important tips on how to improve presentation skills.
Channel Nervous Energy into Enthusiasm
Don’t be fooled into thinking you won’t make a good public speaker because the idea of it makes you incredibly nervous. Speaking in front of people is one of the most feared things for humans. You just need to learn how to conquer anything that might seem like debilitating fear by taking that nervous energy and turning it into enthusiasm. Taking a few public speaking classes will help you hone this skill and make you more comfortable around audiences.
Don’t Forget to Breathe
It sounds obvious enough, but getting worked up may cause you to shorten your breaths. Remember to inhale deeply and this will help you calm any nervous energy. Before your presentation begins, try this little exercise: inhale for 8 counts, hold your breath for 8 counts, and exhale for 8 counts.
Remember These Three Things: Smile, Make Eye Contact, and Engage the Audience
Smiling will release endorphins which will alleviate any anxiety. Plus, people find people who smile more likeable. So you’re killing two birds with one stone. Don’t be afraid to make eye contact with members of the audience (just so long as it isn’t sustained for an uncomfortable amount of time). Remember to shift your eye contact from one person to another. Lastly, engage the audience by asking questions, telling them to answer something by a show of hands, and making light humor in between information.
